Surgery Day

Hi there! Well I made it through surgery without any complications so far. We had to be at the Surgery Center by 545am which was kinda a bear but at least I was the first one up for surgery. I was prepped (I can't believe they made me wear a diaper), now I have much more empathy for my patients that have to wear them! They rolled me in to the operating room at 617am and thats pretty much the last I remember of it. By 830am I was awake and had been in recovery for about an hour. My hubby brought me home and I have been resting on and off most of the day. I have managed to get down about 8 oz water sipping slowly and about a 1/4 cup chicken broth. My biggest complaints so far are: my throat is raw and raspy and I have cotton mouth. I couldn't PEE until finally about 230pm which was relief. What happened to the days where they wouldn't let you leave the hospital until you did? Oh well. The pain is mostly in my low back right now and I think it is coming from gas. I have taken my Gas X strips and I think they are helping already. I have taken a few short walks around the house so I think I am doing good. I feel like I need to burp but all that happens is my throat kinda gurgles, is that normal? Anyhoo's,  the liquid pain med tastes like Crap but it works so I will endure getting it down. I checked out my Belly and I have only 4 bandages instead of 5 so I don't know about that one. I am going to go lay down some more but will keep in touch as the days go on. Thanks again to all my Blogster friends. I can now officially say I am Banded and a B.O.O.B.!!

  1. I warned you about the diaper :P :P :P I remember telling the nurse (as I was changing back into my clothes to go home), "I didn't pee in my diaper!" I didn't want to wear it and I whined about it! Yes, the Lortab tastes like crap. Yes, burping is common. My major burping happened on days 2-3, but if you can burp - DO IT! Less gas in your belly. I said "I'm sorry in advance" and just burped whenever the heck I felt like it. That's awesome that you got 8 oz down already!! Keep it up (I had someone wake me up every 4 hours to make me drink and take the Lortab, even in the middle of the night). Hang in there. Also, the dry mouth issue was resolved with "Biotene" - a small spray bottle of light mint flavor stuff that was with the toothpaste at Walmart. One spray of that and I was good. The dry mouth stuff was over after day 3 or so. I'll shut up now, take care :) :)

  5. Congrats!! Sounds like you did GREAT! The little burps are normal...and walking is GOOD!! Walk as much as you can! I walked in circles in my backyard in the middle of the night a couple of times just moving the ol' gas through...didn't wanna keep everyone in the house up with my rip roarin'!!! HA!! It takes a little while for that gas to work it's way into the intestines too...sometimes it presses against your diaphram where there are nerves that make it feel like you have gas in your shoulders...it's not really there...just feels like it. You'll be great!

  6. Yay, you are banded!!! Hilarious about the diaper! They made me pee in a bed pan, which is horrible! I can't believe you left the same day! I was in the hospital from Tuesday night to Friday morning!! Get a lot of rest and just keep walking!! xx

  11. I have a story about why you would want to wear the diaper. My surgeon didn't make me....hence the story. If we ever meet face to face remind me to tell you because I would NEVER write it down. :)
